Eddie Baird is the latest artist to be included on the Epona label. Eddie was a member of the early 1970’s band Amazing Blondel, along with songwriter John Gladwin and woodwind player Terry Wincott, and they recorded three albums for Chris Blackwell’s Island Records label. Gladwin left in 1972 and Eddie and Terry recorded one final LP for Island before signing to DJM. Another four studio albums followed plus a live album and an Eddie Baird solo album Hard Graft before they gave up gigging and recording. Eddie and Terry used the services of some of rock music’s finest artists as session musicians on these LPs including Stevie Winwood (Traffic), Paul Rogers (Free), Simon Kirke (Free), Paul Kossof (Free) Sue and Sunny (Brotherhood of Man), John Brundrick and Eddie Jobson (Roxy Music, Jethro Tull etc).
Eddie released two solo albums, Also ….. (1998) and Abbey Cottage (2003) both of which sold out and rarely, if ever, become available on ebay. His many fans have been expressing regret that they never bought a copy so this is where Epona stepped in. These two albums are now, once again, available but this time as a double package on Epona.
It has been the practice of late to reissue long deleted LPs as 2 on 1 CDs. Dave Swarbrick, Gryphon, John Renbourn and, indeed, Eddie’s old band Amazing Blondel have all seen their LPs reissued on the 2 on 1 format.
